South Petherton Bowling Club
(Affiliated to the EBA and SCBA)
Green - Recreation Ground, Lightgate Lane
The Club celebrated a 80th Anniversary in 2012. We have a modest membership of some 60+ members of all standards of play from beginners to County standard.
Over the years we have been successful in many competitions (League and Friendly) and we have been commended by many other clubs for the high standard of green and the friendliness of our members. We are also noted for our afternoon teas!
Through the summer playing season (April - September) we have roll-up sessions on a Monday and Friday afternoons from 2pm with free tea and biscuits provided. Matches with other clubs (friendly or competition) are played mainly at weekends with some matches played through the week (mainly Thursdays). Our ladies section have their games usually on a Tuesday afternoon
Wednesday evenings through the summer from 6pm is our Club Night where members can be found playing competitions or just rolling up on the green, or getting some coaching from our coaches (its free!). Some members can occasionally be found in our licensed bar!
Coaching is also provided (free for members) by one of our four fully qualified Coaches on a request basis.
In between the bowling we even manage to hold some occasional social evenings with entertainment, raffles, charity fundraising and the occasional Bar-B-Q if the weather lets us!
In the winter months we convert part of our indoor floor area to facilitate short mat bowling. Again Wednesday evenings are also Club Night from 7pm for this activity and again coaching is available.
If you fancy giving bowling a go then just turn up on a Club Night or Monday or Friday afternoon. You just need some flat soled shoes.
We'd love to see you and are always on the look out for new members both young and old.
